BOOKS BY JOHN WARNOCK

This documentary story tells of the making of a beautiful custom-made acoustic guitar for the author by the New Orleans luthier Vincent Guidroz. The backbone of the book is the email correspondence of Guidroz and Warnock as the guitar came to be. The making begins with the two of them deciding just what kind of acoustic guitar should be made (which has a lot to do with Warnock’s somewhat checkered history as a musician). The stages in the making of the instrument are then described and the issues that arise at each stage. With Guidroz’s beautiful photographs. 

This compiled history tells the story of a deeply interesting American city that wasn’t always American. The collection of threaded stories and telling facts begins with the emergence a million years ago of an iconic peak in what is now called “the birthplace of Tucson” and ends in 2014. It thus covers the period before humans arrived, before the Europeans arrived, before the Americans arrived, before statehood for Arizona in 1912, and after statehood and World War II.

Written by a professor who is a specialist in writing and rhetoric, and a highly distinguished lawyer with six decades of practice under his belt, this book is for writers engaged in the practice of law, though other writers could benefit from it. It focuses on what is required to write effectively (not just correctly, or even “well”) for actual readers in five different writing situations and domains of practice.
